Kansas City Community Church (KCCC), was founded in 1911 as a rescue mission for unwed teen mothers. This early social service ministry eventually became the mission-centered Freeman Avenue Church of God, located at 1060 Freeman Avenue in Kansas City, KS. Several pastors led the congregation over the years.

Then, in 1986, Rev. Dr. Richard D. Prim, Sr. and family moved from Indianapolis, IN to Kansas City and ushered the church into a new direction. In 1998, Freeman Avenue Church of God acquired a deserted bowling alley and converted it into a modern, progressive worship center. On New Years Eve 1998, Freeman Avenue Church of God became Kansas City Community Church.

And the rest is HIStory!

Today, Kansas City Community Church continues to “rescue” those who need to experience the love, acceptance and forgiveness of Jesus Christ!

Resurrection is undoubtedly a large church with many members – but this allows us to offer a great many programs that might not be available at smaller churches. And, we can’t recommend more highly that you involve yourself in a small group. It’s amazing how fast our large church seems to shrink when you get to know your Bible study group and the other volunteers in your area of ministry.

We believe the church belongs to God and that the church is, in the words of the Apostle Paul, the body of Christ. The church is to be the physical presence of Christ in the world. As such, our primary aim is to do God’s will.

At The Church of the Resurrection, we are Christians who are excited to be part of the United Methodist Church.

What is a United Methodist?
United Methodists are the second largest Protestant denomination in America. We are the home to both President Bush and Senator Dole, as well as President Clinton’s family when he was in the White House. Methodists have played a significant role in shaping our nation, and especially the Kansas City area. The Shawnee Mission was started by Methodists. Johnson County is named after Methodist pastor Thomas Johnson. Several of the first public schools in Kansas City were started by Methodists. Della Lamb, reStart, Spofford Home, Kingswood Manor and a host of other community agencies and ministries were started by Methodists. Baker University is one of several colleges and universities in the area founded by Methodists.

United Methodists hold to the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. We are evangelical, but moderates rather than fundamentalists. We value the intellect and modern science, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative guide for faith and practice. Methodists have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion.

Methodists have been known for our emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete ways in the world. We have historically valued well-informed and passionate preaching, worship that was lively, and small groups where people could grow in faith.

Methodists have open hearts, and open minds–and welcome anyone interested in learning more about the Christian faith.

If you would like to know more about what it means to follow Christ, please call 913-897-0120 and ask to speak to one of our pastors

1. We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inerrant in the original writings, and that they are the supreme and final authority by which all human opinions, creeds, or conducts shall be tried and judged.

2. We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born to the Virgin Mary, and is both true God and true man.

3. We believe that man was created in the image of God; that he sinned, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also that spiritual death, which is separation from God; and that all human beings are born with a sinful nature and, in the case of those who reach moral responsibility, manifest themselves as sinners in thought, word, and deed.

4. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins according to Scriptures as a representative and substitutionary sacrifice, and that all who believe in Him are justified on the basis of His precious blood shed on Calvary’s cross.

5. We believe every person should be water baptized by immersion, as commanded by our Lord, following his/her conversion to Christ. Water baptism is a symbol of the Christian’s identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection (Matt. 28:19; Rom. 6:4; Col. 2:12; Acts 8:36-39). We respect our brethren who hold another view on the mode of baptism.

6. We believe in the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has ascended into heaven and ever lives to intercede for us as our High Priest.

7. We believe in the second coming of Jesus Christ, the personal return of our Lord and Savior.

8. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all men, those who have done good unto the resurrection of life and those who have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:29)

9. We believe that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is a second experience subsequent to salvation for believers who have already been born again. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit anoints the child of God with power to witness and with supernatural strength to live the resurrected life. We believe that all 25 gifts of the Holy Spirit should be operating in each local church today, even as they did in the early church. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

10. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord are born again of the Holy Spirit and have become children of God and members of the Body of Christ. We desire to have fellowship with all those who are born again and who love to praise His holy name.

11. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
